Fishing Safaris

Fishing is a great passion of ours and we offer some exciting opportunities. From my personal favourite of catching Black Marlin off the coast of Mozambique to fly fishing for yellow fish in the streams of the mighty Orange River in South Africa.

Our fishing trips or side trips are specialized and offers a combination of great fishing along with activities like deep sea diving, island hopping and local markets and experiences in some of the most beautiful settings in Africa.

Fishing Mozambique is like fishing an undiscovered paradise with accommodations in top-notch luxury lodges situated on white sandy beaches.

We Do It All

A wide variety of fishing both by boat or land. Fly fishing or deep sea fishing, we do it all.

What are all the kinds of fishing?
The five basic methods of angling are bait fishing, fly-fishing, bait casting, spinning, and trolling. All are used in both freshwater and saltwater angling. Bait fishing, also called still fishing or bottom fishing, is certainly the oldest and most universally used method.

Shore fishing

Shore fishing for sharks and large edible fish. We target bronze sharks, Raggatooth sharks and Zambezi sharks from the beach with heavy gear. It is a lot of fun to fight one of these giants and a feather in any fisherman’s cap can land one of these beautiful specimens.

For edible fish

For edible fish, we target large Cob, Steenbras, and Mussel cracker. This can be done in combination with a hunting safari or as a separate trip. A hunt in our Eastern Cape area is a fantastic opportunity to make use of this add-on.

Freshwater Fishing

Can be done as a day trip to target yellowfish in the Orange River system. Fishing is done in remote areas on the river in streams and rapids. Fly and lure fishing is used. Accommodations for day trips are out of the hunting lodge.

Off-shore Fishing

Off-shore fishing for Black marlin takes place of the coast of Mozambique. We fish the Bazzaruto Archipilago. Black marlin are very proliferous in these waters and a number of ‘’granders’’ are caught every year.

The Orange River in the Free State is one of South Africa’s best kept secrets when it comes to fly-fishing for smallmouth and largemouth yellowfish.

Accommodation

White Lion Safari Lodge description pending….

The Orange River in the Free State is one of South Africa’s best kept secrets when it comes to fly-fishing for smallmouth and largemouth yellowfish.

The spectacular Orange River is generally regarded as the premier destination for the avid yellowfish Fly-fisherman.

Sporting plenty of shallow rapids, long slow glides and big pools, the river offers everything the fly-fisherman could ask for.

Whether you are in search of  a trophy largemouth, a smallmouth sipping dries in crystal clear water or nymphing for smallmouth in the rapids, the angler will not be disappointed.

Mozambique is a southern African nation whose long Indian Ocean coastline is dotted with popular beaches like Tofo, as well as offshore marine parks.

In the Quirimbas Archipelago, a 250km stretch of coral islands, mangrove-covered Ibo Island has colonial-era ruins surviving from a period of Portuguese rule.

The Bazaruto Archipelago farther south has reefs which protect rare marine life including dugongs.

Bazaruto is a remarkably productive 1,430 km2 seascape that is connected by a chain of five picturesque islands. These extremely fertile terrestrial and marine ecosystems harbour many rare and endemic bird, reptile and marine species, including over 2,000 fish species and iconic marine megafaunas such as whales, sharks, rays, dolphins and turtles. The flagship species, however, is the dugong as the Bazaruto National park is a stronghold for the last viable population within the Western Indian Ocean.

Hunting in Mozambique is growing in popularity owing to its stunning land and abundance of game...

All you need is your gun information and the address of where you will be staying, which White Lion Safaris will provide to you. After filling out your form and retrieving your gun case, proceed through Customs. Ricus, your outfitter will meet you outside the door to drive you to your hunting area.

Visas

Citizens of the USA and most European countries visiting  South Africa do not require visas.v

While we strongly suggest catch-and-release to support sustainable fishing practises, clients who catch edibles are welcome to harvest for the pot. This, provided the season for the particular species is open and, of course the catch is within size and bag limits.

We recommend moisture-wicking clothing with a high UV rating. That said, you need to be comfortable in what you are fishing in, so wear whatever is comfortable for you. For footwear we recommended you have a sturdy pair of broken-in trail shoes, sneakers or wading boots.
